Every year it seems there is a new offensive costume and controversy around Halloween.
Instead of policing what people decide to wear, how can we educate them about what makes a costume offensive?
A lot of times you hear "It's just a costume" as an attempt to minimize its effect on others.
Becky even recalled a time when a black friend of hers excused a mutual white friend for doing blackface as a part of their Halloween costume:
We realized this was a deeper issue — it's part of the system we live in that perpetuates stereotypes.
So, If you don't want to offend anyone this Halloween, make sure you do your research.
