1. Post-Thanksgiving
You survived Thanksgiving. Football in the backyard kept the pumpkin pie and heavenly turkey stuffing at bay. You're a seasoned veteran by now. How bad can this be?
2. Beginning of the holidays
It's cold outside. You're wearing cozy layers. There's holiday music playing and people are smiling and relaxing. You convince yourself it's a time to focus on friends and family. Your exercise regimen lapses. Who needs to work out this much anyway?
3. Stress-induced indulgence
All that holiday shopping has you worn out and exhausted. Shipping is expensive and going to the stores is insanity. There was a kid screaming behind you in line and finding a parking spot was impossible. At least food is yummy. One vanilla bean noel cupcake over here please!
4. Party like a rock-star
December features festive events galore! Parties involve getting spiffed or dolled up and braving the cold to laugh and mingle in grand entryways or by cozy fireplaces. Appetizers and plates circulate that have food designed for maximum flavor. This happens once a year. Trying the extra dessert couldn't hurt.
5. Recognition
You begin to notice your jeans getting slightly tighter. Who cares? It's the holidays! There are sugar cookies! Peppermint bark, hot chocolate and confections with icing and sprinkles are in the next room! This isn't a time to worry about vanity.
6. Over-sized sweater time
So this is starting to be a problem. Hey sweater buddy old pal come 'ere.
7. Official cookie addiction
Your hand is still in the cookie jar. The sugar-coated snowmen eye you beseechingly.
8. The break-down
There's no denying it. You're a fattie. You wallow in self-misery. While eating impeccably decorated reindeer cookies.
9. Resolution
This will not break you. You make your New Year's Resolution to shake and sweat off the pounds. Watch out fitness connection - you aren't ready for this.
10. Success!
You log your time at the gym and regain some semblance of a balanced diet. The pounds melt away. You emerge from the holidays fit, trim and victorious. Enjoyable holiday season minus any lingering pounds? Success. High fives all around!
