The "Clueless" Characters Side By Side With Their "Emma" Characters

Oh my god, I am totally buggin'.

Clueless is a classic, but before it became one...it was inspired by one of Jane Austen's classics: Emma.

Paramount, Alma Books / Via almabooks.com

Here are the Clueless characters side by side with their Emma characters:

    Cher Horowitz as Emma Woodhouse

    Paramount, Focus Features

In Clueless and Emma: Both characters are slightly spoiled young women who try to play matchmaker for their friends.

    Tai Frasier as Harriet Smith

Paramount / Courtesy Everett Collection, Focus Features

In Clueless and Emma: Both women are taken pity upon by Cher/Emma, who try to set them up with suitors (even though they already know who they like the best).

    Josh as Mr. Knightley

    Paramount, Focus Features

    In Clueless: Cher's former step-brother.

    In Emma: Emma's brother-in-law.

    Mel Horowitz as Mr. Woodhouse

    Paramount, Focus Features

In Clueless and Emma: Cher/Emma's father.

    Christian as Frank Churchill

    Paramount, Focus Features

In Clueless: Cher's love interest, who turns out to be gay.

In Emma: Emma's love interest, who turns out to be secretly engaged.

    Travis as Robert Martin

    Paramount, Focus Features

In Clueless and Emma: They are Tai/Harriet's love interests.

    Elton as Mr. Elton

    Paramount, Focus Features

In Clueless and Emma: Cher/Emma tries to set up Tai/Harriet with Elton/Mr. Elton, but both men are more interested in Cher/Emma, respectively.

    Amber as Mrs. Elton

    Paramount, Focus Features

*Amber is presumed to correspond to Mrs. Elton, though she also shares some similarities with Jane Fairfax (who does not blatantly appear in Clueless).

In Clueless: Amber is Cher's frenemy (who at one point dances with Elton, but it's never explicitly said if they're together).

In Emma: Mrs. Elton is Mr. Elton's eventual wife.

    Mr. Hall as Mr. Weston

    Paramount, Focus Features

*Mr. Hall is presumed to correspond to Mr. Weston.

In Clueless: Mr. Hall is Cher's teacher who she sets up with Miss Geist.

In Emma: Emma sets up Mr. Weston with Miss Taylor/Mrs. Weston.

Miss Geist (and maybe Dionne) as Mrs. Weston

    Paramount, Focus Features

*Miss Geist is presumed to correspond to Mrs. Weston, and though Dionne seems to be a character original to Clueless, she is similar to Mrs. Weston in that she is one of Cher/Emma's best friends.

In Clueless: Miss Geist is Cher's teacher who she sets up with Mr. Hall.

In Emma: Mrs. Weston (formerly Miss Taylor) is Emma's former governess who she sets up with Mr. Weston.
