STATIC-X Frontman, WAYNE STATIC, Dead At 48

Wayne Static, musician and former frontman of the band Static X, was found dead at the age of 48 on November 1, 2014.

Though his publicists have released a statement saying he has indeed passed away, they are not releasing any information as to his whereabouts or cause of death.

    Here is the statement released:

November 1, 2014 - Platinum selling musician Wayne Richard Wells, better known as Wayne Static, passed away at the age of 48. Wayne Static was the enigmatic former frontman and namesake of Static-X, who later forged a successful solo career. Wayne was scheduled to co-headline tours with Powerman 5000 and Drowning Pool over the next several months. No additional information is available at this time.

Though the cause of death has not been released, many are speculating the cause was drug overdose, according to online reactions from friends and musicians who were close to Static.

After a long and ugly legal dispute between Wayne Static and his former guitarist, the band and Static X name were both no longer used. Wayne Static released solo material under his stage name (he was born Wayne Richard Wells) and he was scheduled for a major tour alongside Powerman 5000 just 3 days after his death.

Static was survived by his wife since 2006, former adult film actress Tera Wray.

    UPDATE:

Though numerous sources speculated otherwise, Wayne Static's publicity team released a statement saying that the singer passed away peacefully in his sleep and that no hard drugs were involved. They added that his solo album Pighammer was actually inspired by his then newfound sobriety from hard drugs.
