Promising review: "With three kids and a busy schedule, I use my slow cooker a LOT! Unfortunately, most of the slow cooker recipes I find call for processed ingredients (canned soup, soup mix, jarred spaghetti sauce, etc.), which is okay sometimes, but seems to give the dish that 'slow cooker taste.' These recipes, however, are grown-up, more sophisticated versions. The ingredient lists are filled with fresh, unprocessed, elevated ingredients. The recipes within the book are a nice blend of new/exciting (Asparagus Risotto, Chicken Enchiladas with Mole Sauce, and Kimchi Pulled Pork) and classic/comfort (Cheesy Hash Browns, Split Pea Soup, and Rice Pudding). For the average cook, I found the prep times listed to be very accurate. Often I discover recipes don't properly account for prep time (chopping, browning, marinating etc.) and can turn a supposedly simple recipe into something much more complicated and time-consuming. All in all, after trying a few of the recipes, I think this book is a nice departure from most other slow cooker cookbooks. It is geared toward smaller batches, but I had no problems using a larger crockpot and doubling the ingredients." —J.P.
