Lizzo Just Responded To The Intense Backlash She Received After Twerking In A Thong At A Basketball Game
After the drama sparked a debate about double standards and body-shaming, Lizzo said: "I don't ever want to censor myself because I'm suddenly famous or because everyone's looking at me now."
Lizzo found herself on the receiving end of an intense backlash recently after she was seen twerking in a thong at a basketball game.
Sitting courtside to watch the LA Lakers in action on Sunday night, Lizzo jumped out of her seat when cheerleaders began dancing to one of her songs.
However, some were a little surprised when the singer turned around to reveal the other side of her outfit — or lack thereof.
Here's the moment Lizzo hit the reveal.
Of course, the video quickly began circulating around Twitter, with seemingly everybody chiming in with their two cents. Some called the whole thing inappropriate, especially considering it was a game that was attended by families and children.
Others jumped to Lizzo's defence, calling out a double standard and labelling the criticism as body-shaming.
But, in a recent Instagram Live, Lizzo appeared to respond to the drama, defiantly saying that she refuses to censor herself just because she's famous.
"I just want you to know that it doesn't matter what goes on on the internet. Nothing really breaks my joy," she said, later adding, "I don't ever want to censor myself because I'm suddenly famous or because everyone's looking at me now."
"I'm not gonna quiet myself," she added. "I'm not gonna shrink myself because somebody thinks that I'm not sexy to them. You really think because somebody on Twitter think that I'm not cute, I'm gonna stop existing?"
Before signing off, Lizzo told people to "ignore any negative comments or critiques", calling the people behind them "attention deprived" and "insecure".
