Okay, honesty time: I had no idea the People's Choice Awards were on last night until I saw our Canadian Lord and Saviour Shania Twain trend on Twitter.
Naturally, I held my breath (as you do anytime the name of a beloved celeb trends) until I realized that all the Tweets were some form of "slaaaaaay!" due to:
everyone say thank you to shania twain
I mean, can we have some commotion for the dress (and cape) please.

If this looks familiar, it's because Shania's leopard red carpet ensemble paid homage to an incredibly iconic pop star... herself.
Something that *do* impress me much? A reference to the "That Don't Impress Me Much" music videoβ one of the greatest pieces of visual media to ever grace our retinas.

And it totally made sense that Shania was wearing something that celebrated herself. After all, she was at the PCA's to receive The People's Music Icon Award.
Wow... was last night a dream @peopleschoice?? π₯° Thank you for this award, thank you for calling me an icon!! π₯Ή It's really still so wonderful to feel like you have created a legacy, like your contribution to the world has been meaningful in some way. Thank you. β€οΈ #PCAs
In a super sweet speech Shania told the crowd, "I just want to say giddy up kids. Embrace your individuality and your crazy ideas. Just be brave. Let's remember there is power in numbers. We are in this together. Love is love. And when a door slams in your face, just taking a freakin' runβjust run and leap at that door and kick it down. You won't regret it."
Of course, Shania didn't just give a speechβ she put on a whole fricken' show too.

And while the performance included flames,
Bull riding,
And pink chaps...
The true stand-out moment was when Shania swapped out Brad Pitt's name for Ryan Reynold's while singing "That Don't Impress Me Much".
Sorry not sorry @VancityReynolds ππ #PCAs @peopleschoice
I wasn't the only one thrilled by what I can only describe as "The Canadian Crossover Event of the Century, Period". Later Ryan posted his excitement on his Instagram Story:
