In the 1950s, two cardiologists named Meyer Friedman and Ray Rosenman conducted a study to see if a person's personality could affect their health, especially in regards to coronary heart disease. They decided that people fall into one of two personality types: achievement-driven Type As and laid-back Type Bs.
