5 Classic Advertisements for Failed Cars

These cars didn't do so well in the long haul, sometimes because they cost too much, sometimes because they were ugly and sometimes because they were just crappy. Found these classic adverts over on AutoMD (which has more of these classics).

      Daihatsu Hijet, 1996

Pretty sure that just because it COULD fit more women than a Lomborghini didn't mean those women actually wanted to be caught dead in it. source

    • DeLorean DMC-12, 1982

      DeLorean DMC-12, 1982

Basically everyone knows this car, thanks to the Back to the Future films. But the car itself didn't last too long, mostly because it was pretty pricey considering its performance was rather lackluster. And advertising it with booze was probably not a great idea, in retrospect. Original source

    • Isuzu Impulse, 1988

      Isuzu Impulse, 1988

I'm thinking it's unlikely you could actually drive a loop-the-loop in the Impulse. At least, not with the American version. The Japanese and Europeans got the performance version. Original source

    • Mazda Miata, 1994

      Mazda Miata, 1994

If you're going to get a roadster, get a real one. Not a Mazda. At least, that's how most people felt. Original source

    • Ford Pinto, 1975

      Ford Pinto, 1975

Sorry, I kind of like how ugly the Pinto is, though that's more in a nostalgic, "Wow the 1970s produced ugly everything" sort of way. There was that big gas tank-focused recall in '78, though. Original source
