    "Yellowstone" Co-Creator To Direct Pilot About Bass Reeves, The Coolest Black Cowboy And Deputy Of All Time

    The Real Lone Ranger is coming to Yellowstone!

    Yellowstone co-creator, Taylor Sheridan, is now set to direct the pilot episode of the 1883 spin-off series, 1883: The Bass Reeves Story.

    For those of you who don't know, Reeves is famous for being the first Black Deputy US Marshal west of the Mississippi. It has even been widely speculated that Reeves was the inspiration for the Lone Ranger.

    R2CNGX Bass Reeves (July 1838 ? 12 January 1910) was the first black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi River.

    David Oyelowo will play the legendary deputy and cowboy, who is best known for his award-winning role as Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma. He has also had acclaimed roles in The Butler, Nightingale, and Queen of Katwe.

    Reeves has received more mainstream media attention in recent years as he has been portrayed in The Harder They Fall, Drunk History, Timeless, Wynonna Earp, and HBO's Watchmen.
