Actually, BMI is an indicator for overall risk for certain diseases. Going over 25 (overweight) means you’re at a statistically higher risk for certain heath problems, and these risks increase at 30 (obese). They do not indicate average size. And it’s not perfect! It’s pretty inaccurate…

I’m a registered dietitian with my M.S. in medical dietetics. I’m all about self-love and improving mental health, but this article should at least provide links to healthy weight management sites. BMI is not a perfect indicator of health, but there’s a reason we use it so much.…
