What it's about: In this extra messed-up Japanese film, a widower finds new love a decade after his wife's death, but his new lady hides a horrifying secret.
Why you need to see it: "This movie is a painful hell. Once it ends, you’ll feel like you’ve been punched in the face."
2. Inside (2007)
What it's about: In this French movie, a pregnant widow suffers during a terrifying home invasion by a woman who wants her baby for some reason.
Why you need to see it: "It brings a whole new definition of 'terror' to home invasion films."

What it's about: In this French-Canadian movie, a woman and her friend plot revenge 15 years following a scarring experience of physical torture.
Why you need to see it: "Even if you're into horror, this'll change you and make your stomach turn."
5. The Devil's Backbone (2001)
What it's about: In this Spanish movie, a young boy is sent to an orphanage after his dad dies, and learns the place is seriously haunted.
Why you need to see it: "It's visually stunning, in the best and worst ways. If you can't handle blood, this is not for you."

6. Funny Games (1997)
What it's about: In this Austrian movie, two men force themselves into a family's vacation home and make the mom, dad, and kid play twisted "games" with one another, just for fun.
Why you need to see it: "It's a little scary, and a lot odd, with a downright bizarre twist. It’s worth a watch, just for the strangeness if nothing else."
7. Them (2006)
What it's about: In this French-Romanian movie, a young couple live in a peaceful, isolated area, until one night when a group of hooded aggressors arrive, terrorizing them throughout the night.
Why you need to see it: "It'll genuinely give you goosebumps. If you liked The Strangers, you'll love this."
8. I Saw the Devil (2010)
What it’s about: In this South Korean movie, a man's wife is murdered by a serial killer, so he goes for some hardcore revenge.
Why you need to see it: "The way the revenge plays out is very different than your typical revenge movie. It’s very gory as well.”

9. Tesis (1996)
What it's about: In this Spanish film, a student begins research for her thesis project when she comes across a video showing the murder of a fellow university student who went missing years prior.
Why you need to see it: "The main character is plagued with the agony of finding proof of someone else's death. It'll weigh heavily on you."
10. Les Diaboliques (1955)
What it's about: In this French movie, a man's wife and his mistress conspire to murder him, but his body disappears after the act and horrifying things start happening to both ladies.
Why you need to see it: "The bathtub scene with Michel and Christine? TERRIFYING."
11. Fermat’s Room (2007)
What it's about: In this Spanish movie, mathematicians are trapped in a room and have to solve an enigma as the room gets smaller. It'll crush them if they don't solve it in time.
Why you need to see it: "It’s a great suspense movie, and the horror of being trapped in a shrinking room will make you sweat!"
12. The Vanishing (1988)
What it's about: In this French-Dutch movie, a young couple stop at a service station while on vacation, and the woman is abducted. Years later, the man begins receiving horrifying letters from her kidnapper.
Why you need to see it: "It was very terrifying because it seemed like something that could happen in real life."

13. Taxidermia (2006)
What it's about: In this Hungarian movie, three generations of men metaphorically describe Hungary's history. This movie is intensely gory and features a lot of body horror.
Why you need to see it: "I haven't seen something so incredible, ever. This story is engrossing, and you'll be shocked numerous times. An unusual film that’s worth seeing."
14. Tell No One (2006)
What it's about: In this French movie, cops find the body of a man's wife and suggest he's a suspect in her death. He counters by suggesting his wife is actually alive, and starts to research his theory.
Why you need to see it: "This movie will make you fall in and out of love with love itself. The acting is also fantastic, with an infinite number of twists and turns."
15. Kill List (2011)
What it's about: In this British movie, a hitman is on an assignment to kill three people for big money, but he starts to lose himself as he begins his tasks.
Why you need to see it: "To see a man's downward spiral sent shivers down my spine — I swear I held my breath through the last 30 minutes, it was so intense."

16. Le Corbeau (1943)
What it's about: This French movie is based on the real-life "poison pen letters," which accused a local doctor of practicing abortions and dark affairs.
Why you need to see it: "If you're interested in movies ~based on a true story~, you'll love this, and it keeps you guessing until the very end."
17. Let the Right One In (2008)
What it's about: In this Swedish movie, a young, lonely, bullied boy falls in love with the vampire girl next door.
Why you need to see it: "It's a vampire movie, but unlike any other that you've seen before."

18. The Tenant (1976)
What it's about: In this French film, a shy man rents an old apartment where the previous resident committed suicide, and super spooky things start happening.
Why you need to see it: "It's the final installment in Roman Polanski's 'apartment trilogy,' so if you liked Rosemary's Baby, give this a try!"
19. Goodnight Mommy (2014)
What it's about: In this Austrian film, a mom gets home from getting cosmetic surgery, and two young boys start to doubt that the woman who came back is their mother.
Why you need to see it: "The tension in this movie is unlike any other. The way the horror in this movie plays out is so unique — you will scream."
20. High Tension (2003)
What it's about: In this French movie, two friends try to spend a quiet weekend at a secluded farmhouse. But right away, their relaxing trip turns into a bloody shitshow.
Why you need to see it: "It's a true nightmare. The story is dynamic, the scenes are gore-rific, and the ending is amazing."

21. Julia’s Eyes (2011)
What it's about: In this Spanish movie, Julia must solve the mystery of her sister's death, while battling a degenerative eye disease that makes each and every day darker and scarier.
Why you need to see it: "As Julia’s vision gets progressively worse, scenes become darker — as though your vision is also being lost. Truly terrifying."
22. Suicide Club (2001)
What it's about: In this seriously gory Japanese movie, a wave of suicides hits Japan, and a group of detectives try to figure out the reasoning behind these mass deaths.
Why you need to see it: "If you're looking for a movie that'll make your stomach actually turn, this is one for you. The gore is unreal."
23. And The Orphanage (2007)
What it's about: In this Spanish movie, a woman brings her son to the now-abandoned orphanage where she grew up. When she reopens the orphanage, he starts to make some scary new friends.
Why you need to see it: "It was unpredictable, had me on the edge of my seat, and just had a really good storyline."
