Promising review: "MAGIC!!!! I swear this stuff is made from unicorns. I was doubtful, given that I have tried the gamut of hair conditioning treatments (yes, yes, I know this is NOT a conditioner, but a bonder) and all I have to say is WOWZA! After some really harsh processing (got my hair from dark dark brown to very very blonde so I could add funky colors (currently pink), my hair more closely resembled hay than it did actual hair and as the weeks went on, the breakage started getting worse. I tried this at my last feeble attempt to salvage my locks after a friend recommended it and I am BLOWN AWAY by the results! It really does work. I won't lie and tell you my hair is back to its normal state, but it is SIGNIFICANTLY improved. It is smoother, softer, and even has some of the weight back! This was just after one application (I left it in for an hour as the website suggested for my level of damage). I can't wait to see if it gets better with the next application. I am definitely sold." —shel.b.phd.

Promising review: "Twenty years ago, I colored my hair red. The first time I spent time in the sun, I was horrified that my red hair turned orange! I immediately started looking for a product that would protect the intended color. Paul Mitchell’s Color Locking Spray is what I found and have used it ever since. I like that not only does it keep my hair the color I want, but it also has no scent and I cannot feel it in my hair, yet it works. If you have a part in your hair, it will prevent your scalp from burning. If I go to the beach or will be spending a lot of time in the sun, I still wear a hat, but my red hair has never turned orange from the sun since that first experience due to Paul Mitchell. This is a fantastic product." —Jellybean

Use this only once a week (for about three minutes at a time) to prevent your hair from turning a slightly lavender shade.
Promising review: "Finally! A purple shampoo that actually does something to my brassy hair! I have silver-white hair that is exceptionally hard to maintain due to how easily my hair gains brassy tones and how stubborn they are to remove. I've tried a ton of other brands, and none of their toning shampoos will do a damn thing to my hair even if I leave them on for an hour. I normally have to dilute violet direct dyes to make a dent in my brass. It's nice to not have to schedule a chunk of time to mix a batch of custom toner, painstakingly apply it, and then sit around for an hour while it does its stuff. This shampoo actually works really well and can cut a lot of time out of my bi-weekly color maintenance." —Audrey

Promising review: "This stuff is amazing! Like magic. I thought I’d give it a try as I usually use a powder with a brush to cover up my grays in between coloring, but this stuff...omg! Sprays right on and looks so dang natural This takes care of covering up grays in between coloring in a cinch." —Lisa98

Promising review: "Best. Product. Ever. I tried this at the advice of my hairstylist because my color was not taking well and it faded within days of application. You use this product within 24 hours of coloring your hair, shampoo as usual, then pour the crystals from the packet into your hand. Just add warm water, apply to your hair, and you will INSTANTLY feel change happening. I could actually feel GUNK coming off my hair. The result was my hair looking shinier, more bouncy, and so much softer. The color also just took better and lasted much longer." —Deb Rabine
Some reviewers say it's great for camouflaging grays, if you're into that.
Promising review: "I have naturally dark, chestnut hair and I had gotten tired of the expense of coloring in the salon and the damage it was doing to my hair. I spent the last year growing out all the damage from highlights and color. My hair was healthy and shiny, but it started getting gray! This provided unbelievable results. Not only did this camouflage the gray hairs by tinting them blonde, but it gave my overall natural color a rich, lustrous shine. This is well worth the money." —Lisa Combs

Promising review: "This product is so amazing I bought one for all the people in my family! You clip the soft roll onto the top of your head and then continue to wrap strands of damp wet hair in a spiral formation, wrapping away from your face. Secure the bottoms with soft scrunchies and you'll have gorgeous curls for days, LITERALLY. Takes a whopping five minutes if you have thick hair like me. Sleep with it overnight (not uncomfortable at all) and your curls will actually last for days. So simple, so awesome, so much time saved. Can't recommend enough!" —Kaitlin

Promising review: "I have coarse, dry hair and I simply can't live without this oil. Nothing else I've tried has ever made my hair so soft, shiny, and smooth. I have long hair that comes down to my bra line and I only need a few small drops. I use this after washing my hair (I wash 3 times a week) when it's about 90% dry. It seems to do more for me when it's used on dry hair. I usually use it before bed and my hair feels SO soft in the morning. It is pricey, but a bottle lasts me typically between 3–4 months, and that's with my daughter using it occasionally as well. Be sure to stay away from your roots with this stuff, you want to focus on your mid-length and ends." —Caitlin B.

A personal note: As someone with thin, greasy, flat hair, I can confidently say that powder dry shampoos are so much better than aerosol ones. Like, they actually make your hair look freshly washed.
Promising review: "This product is absolutely amazing. It soaks up my grease and does not leave a white powder residue. I am shocked at how good this product I am obsessed with it. I work out daily, I also dye my hair copper red so I can’t wash it daily without the color fading. This stuff is a life saver!" —kathryn bouchard

Promising review: "I have balayaged hair and this product has been PERFECT! I have an ash brown color hair, with lighter blonde(ish) balayage through it, however it needed toning due to the discoloring overtime. I was a bit hesitant that it would mess up the color since there are multiple colors in my hair but it did not at all. This product is easy to use, smells great, and really evens out the hair color tones. The ONLY issue I have is that it DOES stain your hands so be sure to wash/rinse your hands ASAP while the shampoo is sitting in your hair." —Amanda Castan

Getting out of the shower, I wrap my hair in this towel while I get dressed and I no longer have to worry about my hair completely drenching my shirt as soon as Ix take it out of the towel. It really dries it to a manageable level of dryness in just a minute or two." —AubriSnowe

Promising review: "As someone who colors their hair, I am constantly on the lookout for ways to style my hair without further damaging it; I therefore try to stay away from heated methods of styling as much as possible. I prefer heat-less methods like this because the curls seem to set for longer and stay bouncy. I have pretty thick hair and was looking for a casual, wavy look...the fact that my hair took to curling in such a short period of time (I had just left them in for two hours) is AMAZING!!" —Kiana

Promising review: "This is the best shampoo I’ve ever used! I have long, fine, highlighted hair that I can’t wash my hair every day, so my shampoo has to cut through a somewhat greasy scalp and still be gentle since my hair is super fine. With this, my hair doesn’t look oily on the second day and it’s manageable until I wash it every other day. It’s by far the best shampoo I’ve ever used." —lochall

Promising review: "I'd like to say that this thing is one of the goofiest looking products I have ever bought in my entire life. That being said, it is one of my favorite products I've ever had, and I preach the wonders of this thing to anyone and everyone who will listen. Since purchasing it, I have cut down my use on shampoo AND CONDITIONER by HALF. I have long, color-treated, mildly damaged hair and I used to go through shampoo and conditioner like WATER. Now I don't feel so guilty about purchasing more expensive products because this little tool makes it go such a long way. It lathers beautifully, cleans my scalp, and distributes conditioner evenly. Also, the feeling is spine-tingling, literally like having a tiny hair stylist just washing your hair for you. The best part is, it gets my hair SO CLEAN that I don't need to wash as often either, which is the cherry on top. Seriously, do yourself a favor, treat yo' self, and get the thing. You won't regret it." —Allison Brittain
