    This Hotel In Reykjavík, Iceland, Is So Amazing I've Decided To Move In

    A complimentary breakfast with smoked salmon and wellness shots — because I deserve to feel rich.

    I went to Reykjavík last year and had a blast: I saw geysers, glaciers, and lagoons, nearly ruined my hair from the sulfur at said lagoon, met really lovely people, etc.

    Now if you'd like to listen to me babble on about my trip, you can do that here! But if you’re a hotel fanatic who enjoys reading about cool properties? Then we are cut from the same cloth.

    So enough about my trip — I just really need to tell you that Canopy by Hilton Reykjavík in Iceland was fabulous, and I have the receipts to prove it.

    First, the aesthetics: a total Pinterest dream. Think a large lobby bookshelf, velvet accents, high ceilings, retro photography scattered over the walls, and the list (like Journey) goes on.

    There are also vinyl records in the lobby, so I chose a few, grabbed a portable record player (also available to borrow), and then headed on up to my room. 'Twas very cool and I felt very hip.

    This hotel is also in the perfect location: Everything you'll need is within walking distance (from restaurants and bars to the iconic Hallgrímskirkja church), which is important considering that Uber doesn't exist in Iceland.

    This hotel may be on a quiet and off-the-beaten-path street, but I was able to walk everywhere throughout the city and nothing was more than a 20-minute stroll.

    Plus, most tour companies offer bus pick-up and drop-off from the hotel lobby — all I had to do was leave my room, take the elevator down, and get on the bus to all the ~natural~ wonders outside the city center.

    Then there was that comfy, comfy bed. I always struggle to fall asleep in hotel rooms (maybe it’s jet lag, maybe it’s the stiff pillows) but it was lights out the moment I slipped into something more comfortable.

    By something more comfortable, I mean an oversized promotional t-shirt and boxer shorts.

    The walk-in rainfall shower was also a blessed welcome from the dungeon-like bathroom I’m usually forced to live with — we're talking fancy tiles and awesome complimentary bath products that didn't make my skin feel drier than sandpaper.

    I flew to Iceland on a budget airline, which means that checking a bag = basically more expensive than the actual flight, so I didn’t pack any shower necessities. Hotel bathrooms often have the worst quality products, but these were actually great — Apivita products ranging from olive soap to Greek honey and orange shampoo.

    But the pièce de résistance, the crème de la crème, the maraschino cherry in that Shirley Temple — THE FOOD!

    Geiri Smart, the on-site restaurant, serves fare as delicious as their blue velvet booths. The chefs actually change the menu depending on what ingredients have been sourced by local farmers and fishermen.

    In other words, everything you consume here uses only the freshest produce available.

    Now Reykjavík is an expensive city, which you will notice more and more with every meal. Food is delicious but pricey, which means perks like complimentary breakfast will save you a ton of money in the long run.

    So yes, the *complimentary* breakfast buffet (also served at Geiri Smart) is the real kicker — they have everything from bacon, eggs, pastries, smoked salmon, dried meats, fresh fruit, yogurt, several different smoothies...even WELLNESS SHOTS.*

    To summarize, Canopy by Hilton Reykjavík has it all: a lobby worth 'gramming, complimentary breakfast built for the gods, prime location, *and* a decent price.

    The rates start at $180 per night, which is a great deal compared to surrounding properties. I highly recommend this hotel if the wonders of Iceland are at the top of your bucket list. I still dream of that complimentary breakfast.
