    4. Flashbacks of a Fool (2008)

    Buena Vista International

"Starring Daniel Craig and Felicity Jones. It’s about a washed-up, narcissistic actor who flashes back to a time before he developed a lifestyle that includes unfulfilled urges for sex, drugs, and money. I love the British setting, the music, the intensity of the relationships, the flashbacks, and the sex. I also love Daniel Craig’s butt. It's a must-watch. You're welcome."

"It's about a shy newcomer at a high school who starts a pirate radio station out of boredom and loneliness. When a listener dies by suicide, the FCC decides to take the station — and its DJ — down. It’s a fun movie with an absolutely phenomenal soundtrack. For younger viewers, you get a sense of what the world was like when public communications were largely in the hands of government-regulated corporations in a time before everyone could start a blog, website, or podcast to showcase their opinions to the masses."

"It's criminally underrated. I feel like people didn’t watch it because they thought it’d be too much of a KISS movie, but it’s so great. Awesome friendships, great comedy, and lots of great songs (by more artists than just Kiss). Lots of quotable moments, too!"

"It's one of my favorites, and it doesn't seem super widely known. I think we rented it from the local movie store on a whim, and we loved it so much we bought it so we can watch it whenever we want! The whole cast is killer, but Sam Rockwell and Allison Janney have some great one-liners that have found their way into our everyday vernacular."

"Has anyone else ever seen this? It's got Billy Crudup and Claire Danes, and is about the transition of when women were allowed to perform in plays (before that, female parts were played by male actors). I won't do a full synopsis, but it's a great movie overall, and has maybe the best third act I've ever seen!"

"It was my daughter’s introduction to Kevin Smith films and she LOVED it. It is, of course, ridiculous — but it’s also a Kevin Smith film, so it works and is pretty great. He wrote it specifically for his daughter and her best friend to star in."

"It's a documentary about Stephen Groo, an absolutely terrible filmmaker (think Tommy Wiseau, but worse). Despite being completely awful at filmmaking, he pumps out film after film after film...and even manages to get Jack Black to appear in one of them (that whole process is covered in the doc). It's fascinating."

    30. Closet Land (1991)

    Universal Pictures

"It’s a slow burn, psychological thriller starring ONLY Alan Rickman and Madeline Stowe. It’s one of the best-acted films I’ve ever seen with an incredibly powerful message. I once had the good fortune to bump into Alan Rickman on the street. It was at the start of the Harry Potter craze, so when my eyes went all fangirl, I saw him tense up. But, awkward as I am, I sort of half-shouted, 'I loved your work in Closet Land!' at him, and he immediately relaxed. We chatted for a few minutes about the movie and he was truly lovely to meet; so gracious and kind!"
