Y'all already know the Pink Elephants are on this list.

We recently asked members of our BuzzFeed Community, "What's the most unexpectedly dark scene and/or moment to ever appear in a film for kids?" and they really delivered the WTF. Here are just a few of the most traumatizing moments named:

WARNING: Due to the nature of this post, there are some mentions of sensitive content (including suicide). Please proceed with caution.

    1. Clayton's death, Tarzan (1999)

    Walt Disney Studios

"The scene when Clayton gets tangled in vines and is essentially hanged. That isn’t even the worst part...because then the animators decided to add in the shadow of his hanging body swinging in the trees in the next scene. In a KIDS movie. Who even thinks of these things??? I’m still scarred."

    2. The hellish nightmare, All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989)

    MGM/UA Communications Co.

"When Charlie has that nightmare that he's in hell and sees some scary-ass demons and shit. Like WTF...who is this movie for?!"

    chris33

    3. The scream-sucker, Monsters, Inc. (2001)

    Pixar

"Honestly? The big scream-sucking machine scared the shit out of me as a kid. No one thinks about it, but like...forcing kids to scream and then collecting it??? It's dark. It still scares me. It’s horrifying."

    nathanvh

    4. Hellfire, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)

    Walt Disney Studios

"I recently watched this again as an adult and was horrified by Frollo's whole song. The tone of the movie is dark from the beginning, but this really takes it to a different level. All the implications blew my mind...it's a children's movie. Ugh, I was disturbed."

    mrsnewman2010ln

    5. The shoe's dip, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988)

    Buena Vista Pictures

"The scene when Judge Doom dips the shoe in the 'Dip.' It still bothers me to this day. I hate it so much."

    tiffanyr40116845e

    6. Leslie's drowning, Bridge to Terabithia (2007)

    Buena Vista Pictures Distribution

"Of course if you read the book, you already knew about it, but if you just went into the movie thinking it was a fantasy kids movie, then you were in for a shock. It really does come out of nowhere and in NO WAY did they advertise this 'twist,' which made it more difficult to process for me."

    monikap6

    7. The opening sequence, Up (2009)

    Pixar

"The opening sequence leading to the miscarriage. While small children might not understand completely what was happening, an adult woman who has gone through the same definitely does..."

    sarahnatasiabright

    8. The marionettes, Polar Express (2004)

    Warner Bros. Pictures

"GOOD GOD, who let Robert Zemeckis make motion capture animated movies?!"

    ajl5409

    9. The Walrus and Carpenter, Alice in Wonderland (1951)

    Walt Disney Studios

"The Walrus tricks the baby oysters — who are drawn dressed as ACTUAL babies in bonnets — to leave the safety of their home and then the Walrus EATS THEM ALIVE. What the actual heck?!"

    kellyh44f66a2a5

    10. Todd's abandonment, The Fox and the Hound (1989)

    Walt Disney Studios

"My dad always taught me that, when you adopt an animal, you make a commitment to care for them for their whole life. It was traumatizing to see her drive him into the forest and just leave him there. His little face was so confused...it’s heartbreaking."

    pocketpeacock

    11. Tadashi's sudden death, Big Hero 6 (2014)

    Walt Disney Studios

"When Tadashi dies trying to save the (spoilers) asshole professor. Hero had JUST lost his parents and then he loses his big brother, too. It was too much, even for Disney."

    jnkay2010

    12. A Girl Worth Fighting For, Mulan (1998)

    Walt Disney Studios

"When Mulan and the gang are happily singing as they march to General Li's camp...and it turns out that the Huns had already been there, and the camp had been decimated. It was so devastating and abrupt."

    johnsonkellyann076

    13. Donald's hunger, Mickey and the Beanstalk (1947)

    Walt Disney Studios

"At one point in this, Donald goes mad because he gets so hungry. That crazy look he had when he eyed the axe and their pet cow and Goofy and Mickey had to restrain him...what the heck Disney?!"

    diyanahj

    14. Pink elephants on parade, Dumbo (1941)

    Walt Disney Studios

"Nothing messed with me when I was a little kid as much as that part when he gets drunk and we're subjected to 'Pink Elephants on Parade' song. Absolutely not."

    matthewschonmorgan

    15. The hanging rats, Ratatouille (2007)

    Pixar

"The scene when Remy's dad takes him to a pest control shop to prove to him that humans aren't meant to be trusted, and there's a whole line of hanging dead rats in the window. It's an eerie scene as is, but the music playing in the background and the dark, rainy setting makes it truly nightmare-ish."

    thebirthofvenus

    16. The child catcher, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)

    United Artists

"This movie is VERY weird from start to finish, but it takes a dark turn when this character is introduced. It terrified me as a child, and still terrifies me now."

    brianac4bb0bdc61

    17. The attempted suicide, The Incredibles (2004)

    Pixar

"Definitely the suicidal guy at the beginning of this. Literally no one brings it up on these lists, but HOW DARK IS THAT?! The guy then even sues Mr. Incredible for saving him instead of letting him die. It's so dark and out of nowhere for a kids movie!"

    natashakafoteka

    18. The whole freakin' movie, Madeline: Lost in Paris (1999)

    Walt Disney Home Video

"My fellow late millennials: Does ANYONE remember this movie?! It was based on the '90s cartoon Madeline. The whole premise of the movie was so messed up — Madeline gets kidnapped by this guy who is pretending to be her uncle, and he forces her into slave labor with these orphaned girls in a lace shop. They added musical numbers throughout the movie, as if to try and make it 'cute' or something, but WTF?! I can’t believe that was a real children’s movie that got made!"
