Author's note: "My angsty teen journal" refers to me — Alice Lahoda, the author of this quiz — and the journal in which I wrote my angsty thoughts as a teen. It is not a movie. (But maybe it should be??)

But let's be honest — every woman who grew up in the '90s and '00s said this at some point.

**_Mean Girls_**

"Ex-boyfriends are off-limits to friends!"

In _Mean Girls_, on Oct. 3, Aaron Samuels asked Cady Heron what day it was. ("It's October 3rd.") Meanwhile, on Oct. 31, I wrote a lengthy rant in my journal about how unfair it was that I wasn't allowed to trick-or-treat past 9 on a school night. Both of these dates are equally important in millennial canon.

**My angsty journal**

When Elle Woods turned down Warner Huntington III? That's who she really is, and we love that for her.

_**Legally Blonde**_

This line is from an angsty song I wrote after a crush turned me down. And yes, the whole song is this [embarrassing](https://www.buzzfeed.com/alicelahoda/embarrassing-song-poem-crush-roundup).

"I think I need glasses, because I'm seeing you with different eyes."

This scene gave us so many iconic lines ("Boo, you whore!"), but the real girlies were salivating watching Regina eat her way through every carb in Evanston, Illinois. I'm STILL craving that baguette.

_**Mean Girls**_

"I had survived my first three-way calling attack."

Mr. Duvall was a king among peasants, and I truly hope from the bottom of my heart that his carpal tunnel healed.

There was a particular genre of magazine story in the late '90s and early '00s that focused on all the ways teen girls could die from relatively rare ailments. Those editors looooved a cautionary tale about toxic shock syndrome, and they terrified an entire generation.

"Seventeen said never leave in a tampon for more than eight hours."

Of course it's from _Legally Blonde_! Where else would it be from — my journal?! HAH! You're hilarious. Besides, hypothetically, if I had this experience as an angsty teen, I wouldn't have written it down for someone to find. That's just common sense.

I went to school in Boston, and my journal was FILLED to the brim with lyrics from "[Boston](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ASJBXu8tNo&ab_channel=augustanaVEVO)" by Augustana. Elle Woods attended Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

"This time next fall, we’ll be in Boston!"

Diet culture was fucked up in the '00s, and some of that rhetoric is making a resurgence now. Stay vigilant, kids! You don't need to lose 3 pounds, I promise. (Check out [_Maintenance Phase_](https://www.maintenancephase.com/) podcast! It's great.)

Again, who among us hasn't uttered something similar in a moment of panic? We stan a relatable queen.

"I wasn't aware that we had an assignment."

Sorry, babes, but you're not a millennial. (But we love you anyway!) Go make some avocado toast and ruin the engagement ring industry, and then we'll talk.

You don't even go here!

You're probably a Gen X–millennial cusper who didn't consider these movies part of your core identity. OR you're a Gen Zer who recently discovered "classic films." (😀🙃)
