23 Things You Absolutely Don't Have To Do On Facebook

    You're off the hook.

    1. You don't have to stay friends with your ex to seem like you don't care.

    2. And you definitely don't have to stay friends with your ex's family because it feels like it would be rude to un-friend them.

    3. You don't have to engage in "debate" with someone who ignored you since high school but suddenly wants to fight about politics.

    4. You don't have to accept a friend request from someone you don't know IRL, or someone you do know IRL but don't like very much.

    5. You don't have to wish a happy birthday to every Tom, Dick, and Sally.

Random happy birthday wishes from people I don't know on facebook...

    6. And you don't have to thank everyone who left a happy birthday comment for you.

    7. You don't have to be on Facebook chat!!!

    8. You don't have to correct people who post satire as real news.

    9. You don't have to keep the aggressive or troll-y comments some rando made in response to an article you posted.

    10. If someone posts a passive-aggressive comment that is CLEARLY about you, you don't have to reach out or respond.

    11. You don't have to accept an invitation to like someone's band page if you don't actually like the band.

    12. In fact, you can block or unfriend people who post bigoted or hateful posts or comments.

    13. You aren't required to post about your promotion or engagement or whatever, if you'd rather celebrate privately.

    14. Conversely, you don't have to feel bad about celebrating the news.

    15. If your best friend posts their engagement on Facebook before telling you, it is okay to be upset with them.

    16. You are not obligated to catch up on everything you haven't seen in your Timeline.

    17. If someone friends you after a first date and you don't want to see them again, you can deny the request and block them.

    18. You don't have to check the Facebook of your friend's ex, who she's unfriended but would still like updates on.

    19. If someone announces something only on Facebook, they cannot be mad if you didn't know.

    20. You don't have to like every picture of your cousin's baby.

    21. You don't have to change your profile picture or post a hashtag to prove you care about a social issue.

    22. You definitely, 100%, do not have to accept an invitation to play Candy Crush Saga.

    23. And you don't have to have a Facebook account.
