Finally, Someone Questions “Toddlers & Tiaras” Star’s Go-Go Juice, Parenting

Yeah, yeah, yeah: Alana “Honey Boo-Boo Child” Thompson, the latest hot mess of a star to be spawned from “Toddlers & Tiaras,” is funny to laugh at on the internet. Am I the only one who finds the whole thing totally disturbing?

The good people at “Good Morning America” sent intrepid reporter Andrea Canning to McIntyre, Georgia, home of the pint-sized caffeine-addicted star and her mother, June. She sat down for an interview with June and Alana which quickly changed from “me so hyperrrrr!” into some “real talk” about the effects that the “Go-Go juice” (one can of Red Bull mixed with a bottle of Mountain Dew) actually has on the six-year-old. Surprise! Mom wasn’t really having it.

It went a little something like this:

June: “You have to have something to energize their body.”

Andrea: “Why? Why do you have to, though? For a six-year-old, giving her caffeine and Red Bull? I mean, that’s just a lot of caffine and sugar for a little girl.”

June: “Um, I mean, it’s like I said. There’s worse things, far worse things for [her].”

Right. Like heroin! And later:

Andrea: “Do you worry at all that Alana make become addicted to sugar or that she may become overweight?”

June: “No, I don’t.”

Right, because she’s not at all genetically predisposed to becoming overweight? And finally:

June: “There are normal people who give their kids this, so why is it such a big issue with us pageant moms that do it all weekend to keep our kids energized and awake?”

Ah, yes, the ol “But everybody’s doing it!” excuse. Toootally justifiable. I, for one, am glad that at least somebody tried to knock some sense into Alana’s mom — even if it probably won’t make much of a difference.
