TV spin-offs are made when a show does well in the ratings and producers want to milk the franchise as much as they can without exhausting the talent of the parent series. Some spin-offs have does exceptionally well. Frasier, which was a spin-off of Cheers. Maude, The Jeffersons — both spin-offs of All In The Family. The Simpsons, which originated as a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show, and Melrose Place, which sprung from the loins of Beverly Hills, 90210.
