    Executive Director-AnnMarie Santiago

Executive Director-AnnMarie Santiago I was born in 1980 in a poor neighborhood in Queens, NY. I witnessed the effects of disease and poverty in my community, and was determined at a young age to do something about it. I went to Lehman College and graduated with a Bachelor's in Business Administration. I was constantly involved with charity work that focused on giving back to communities. The direct inspiration that made me start The Cure Is Now was the passing of several people that were very close to me. It put life into perspective for me, and made me think about those suffering out there that aren't fortunate enough to have proper medical care, prevention screenings, advocates, or a support system. What about those children left behind from dying parents? Or even parents outliving their children who die from child-prone Cancers? The answers to these questions have always left me feeling uneasy. I was determined to make a strong commitment to this organization and not go half-way on any matter. I really want to emphasize spreading awareness and education about disease and the importance of nano and bio technology. Through The Cure Is Now, I am focused on developing new advances, and to bring hope to communities around the world. I am looking for results and answers, which is why it is so important to donate to this cause. We are fortunate enough to live in a time with cutting edge technology, and we would be fools not to take advantage of that – we cannot fall short, and we cannot (and will not) fail. Funding is a necessary tool for every charity and I have been exploring traditional and non traditional methods to fundraising. This includes sponsored events, the aid of video marketing tools such as youtube, and the aid of online communities such as Facebook. This way, it makes philanthropy more relevant and easily accessible. Using my business expertise, I am aiming towards "killing two birds with one stone” with my program operations. The first is spreading awareness, particularly through social networking. The second, will be to research cures, primarily through a paradigm shift in thinking. This shift will fundamentally change the scientific community's approach to thinking about problems at their root-level causes and how to leverage emerging technologies to tackle these problems in ways that weren't technologically possible before.
