14 Foodie Trends That Got Londoners Talking In 2013

Including smoked everything, Prosecco on tap and so much chicken.

1. Everyone got into ramen.

What is it? A Japanese soup noodle dish, which combines thin wheat noodles and either a soy or pork bone broth.

Where can I try it? Bone Daddies (pictured), Koya, Shoryu and Tonkotsu all specialise in ramen and have plenty of options for vegetarians.

2. People started drinking sherry again.

Where? Bar Pepito offers a tasting menu of 8 sherries for £21.50. Meanwhile, Drakes Tabanco is the only place in London to serve sherry by the barrel and The Sign Of The Don (pictured) specialises in sherry cocktails.

3. Latin restaurants opened everywhere.

What kind of Latin food can I get? Andina specialises in Peruvian food, Cabana (pictured), is the place for barbecued Brazilian food - the spicy malagueta chicken is their best-selling dish - and nowhere does Mexican street food better than Death By Burrito. But if it's Argentinian fare you're after, try Casa Malevo.

4. As did American places.

Which ones? New York's Shake Shack (pictured) made it to Covent Garden, while Five Guys and The Diner have branches popping up all over the place.

5. And Korean ones.

Where? Bibigo, Koba (pictured), KIMCHEE and GOGI are undoubtedly London's best places for kimchi (read: chilli-spiked fermented cabbage), gochujang (read: hot pepper paste) and Korean hotpots.

6. Everything got smoked.

Like what? Smoked chicken salad at Tuttons (pictured) and smoked bacon with roast mallard and squash at BEAGLE.

7. Or pickled.

For example? Beetroot, carrots, celery and watermelon at Pitt Cue Co. (pictured), green pickles with coleslaw at The Running Horse and pickled nectarines with toast at Caravan.

8. Aperol made a comeback.

Where? Obika (pictured) and Polpo do a mean Aperol spritz.

9. Restaurants stopped offering variety.

Excuse me? Single dish restaurants started cropping up everywhere.

Like what? Chicken at The Chicken Shop, hirata buns at Flesh & Buns, champagne and hotdogs at Bubbledogs, steak at Flat Iron and burgers at Dirty Burger.

10. Milkshakes got boozy.

Which is the best? The Cereal Killer at The Blind Pig (£9.50).

11. Prosecco was served on tap.

Where? Pizza Pilgrims and Soho Diner have both ditched bottles in favour of taps, but you won't find better value bubbly than at VIVO (pictured) where it's £4 a glass.

12. Chicken got fancy.

Where? Chicken Shop (pictured), Rita's and Chooks are pretty much unbeatable.

13. We welcomed cronuts to the U.K.

Where can I find the best ones? At Rinkoff Bakery, except they call them "crodoughs".

14. And we started eating popcorn outside of cinemas.

Sweet or salty? Neither. This year's been about devilled popcorn at Coal Vaults (pictured), peanut satay and goats cheese popcorn at Hush and salt and vinegar popcorn at the Bluebird.
