The video was sweet, as well as the story behind it. However, I do wish that people would stop pushing the idea that motherhood is “always” worth it and that everyone should become a parent. There are a lot of people who shouldn’t become parents to any child. The cultural ideas we have that ‘when it’s your child…’, ‘it changes once you look into your baby’s eyes…’, ‘ALL mothers love their baby…’, and et cetera, they contribute to neglect and abuse when women who feel pressured to have children later realize that motherhood hasn’t magically changed their life for the better. We are made not to blame ourselves for something of this magnitude, and so in this situation these women tend to blame the child. And no child should grow up like that. These kids look like they have the best moms they could have asked for and there are wonderful people out there who are amazing parents, but if motherhood was “always worth it” as this headline claims, there would be no maternal abuse. Save a child, stop the propaganda.
