alot of these women are taught that they are less than a man so of course they don't have a problem. its sad to me, and i believe it is something we should change!

It's so easy for everyone here to point and say “are you crazy? how can you think it's alright for your husband to hit you?” Those questions come out of people who've been raised in societies where domestic violence is an evil thing (as it should be). But before you start blaming these poor women for their opinions (which simply reflect the values of their societies and the way they were raised) why not stop to think about how you would feel if every aspect of your social and home life reinforced the idea that you are an inferior creature and you must submit to the will of your betters (i.e. men). No wonder they don't see a problem with being hit.

@ aaron k:  You are quite right, this graphic unfortunately does a poor job presenting these disturbing statistics. Better: a graphic with the y-axis (vertical) showing a scale of 0-100% and x-axis (horizontal) showing each country. The US, EU nations, Scandinavia, Australia, etc. should also be shown (surely their results are virtually 0%) to further convey the truly disturbing results elsewhere.

If the sections aren't to scale (e.g. Ethiopia and Vietnam) why bother making it a chart? It's just disturbing data.

In Jordan it is actually much lower, but the husbands threatened to beat the wives if they didn't answer that it was OK for them to beat their wives.

I noticed Afghanistan is not there. It's probably because women there, believe it is NOT okay for them to speak or answer questions.

Kazakhstan has a lower percentage than Belize…. I just thought you meant to put that since it seems like the highest and lowest percentages were mentioned.
