A baby gorilla has been delivered by caesarean section at San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
Her mother Imani underwent the procedure on March 12 after experiencing trouble giving birth.
Imani, 18, is said to be recovering after the emergency C-section.
Associate Director of Veterinary Services at San Diego Zoo Nadine Lamberski said: "We think that the health of the foetus would have been compromised if we'd delayed surgery any longer.”
The baby gorilla remains in intensive care at the veterinary hospital to receive oxygen and extra fluids.
The baby is the 17th gorilla to be born at the safari park.
