At the start of April, Rory Patrick told his 13,000 Twitter followers he had decided to give up sex and masturbating for the next 100 days.
He was apparently pretty excited about his challenge and wanted the world to know about it.
He was convinced he was about to start a whole new viral trend.
In actual fact there is an online community dedicated to abstaining from masturbation and pornography.
For example, the NoFap subreddit has over 100,000 members, or "Fapstronauts".
Patrick claims he knew nothing of these groups and came up with the challenge alone.
During the 100 days he continually tweeted about his efforts and thanked those who were supporting him.
Early on it appeared he was struggling somewhat with his challenge.
Things started getting pretty weird.
And there were a lot of reminders of what he was missing out on.
But to keep strong, Patrick kept reminding himself of just how great he apparently is.
In an interview with Vice, Patrick said he decided to take on the abstinence challenge after noticing how "jerking off had altered the trajectory of my day-to-day life".
"Coming was also my primary coping strategy for stress or pain, and that just didn't seem healthy at all," he said.
He said the first four days had been "hell", but after that he began to feel healthier and more eloquent and the support he received online helped him through.
He said he and a friend started taking pictures doing the Hunger Games salute and it caught on, with people adding the #rory100 hashtag.
"It let me know people were thinking about me and kept me honest, because it seemed like people were having fun with it," he said.
Patrick revealed some people had tried to tempt him with nude pictures, but the majority of his followers and friends made sure he stayed on track.
When the 100th day came, Patrick said his roommate kindly left him alone “so I could be as loud as I needed to be”.
Oversharing massively, he revealed his preparation to his followers.
“I tweeted out some thanks, and when the time came, I was naked and really enjoying myself once again," he said. "It only took a few minutes, and the finish was spectacular.
"The orgasm reverberated throughout the room for at least 20 minutes."
"I tweeted out a pic of me smiling and then logged off for a while."
On what he had learned from his challenge, Patrick said: "If stress or anxiety hits, I don’t just jump under the covers or text someone to hang out. I’d like to greet those moments with something a bit healthier.
"My apartment has never been cleaner, and my body has been getting a bunch of use outside of my cock for the last 100 days, and my hope is that continues."
And that's Rory's story.
So now you know.
