Is he out of the closet yet though? It shouldn't matter but it does. I mean if you're asking other people to embrace their sexuality and you won't even acknowledge yours what kind of message does that send? To be honest, and I know that this a controversial opinion, I'm not even sure that straight people should be participating in this campaign. I'm trans now but when I was young I was a very feminine, very tormented young gay man and yes I tried to commit suicide. If some smug straight guy showed up on tv talking about “it gets better” I know exactly what I would have said in response: “The FUCK do you know about MY life? about MY pain? STFU!” I thought Tim Gunn's video was extremely candid and beautiful, that's the kind of straight talk that's needed to save a lot of lives. Don't get me wrong, I'm not heterophobic by any stretch of the imagination but when you put a straight person in a video to speak to gay TEENS going through the intensely twisted hell that is high school about “accepting yourself” that's like having a size zero fashion model speak to fat girls about loving their bodies or having Paris Hilton speak to underprivileged youth about how great being poor is.
