Response to A Childhood Spent Inside A Chinese Restaurant:
I also felt like I needed more. It felt like the end was rushed mostly because I was just becoming in touch with what the writer was writing about. I think as a first generation American I could also relate to what the writer was describing. My mother worked at a fast food restaurant in Texas called Grandy’s. Everyday day after school she would pick us up and we would go with her back to work. She would sit us in the back of the restaurant and we would do our homework until she was done with work. Often when kids from school would come by with their parents for an early dinner and eat there I would be too embarrassed to acknowledge them. I always felt guilty for feeling that way because I loved my mom, but not smelling of fried chicken after sitting there for four hours. After work my mom would drop us off and go to night school. The three main things in our house that mattered most was family, god, and education.
