I work at this zoo and this has definitely happened before. The zoo is right by a park and racoons and deer get into exhibits all the time.
Culture Buzz A baby deer gets chased by a lion at the National Zoo and barely escapes by jumping into the water. I want to hate that annoying screaming woman, but she probably had something to do with saving that deer's life.

I like to walk up behind tourists at the Nat'l Zoo big cats area and ask my friends “So, when is the next gazelle release?” This *used* to be a joke.

The people cheering for the deer are stupid hippies who are to stupid to understand that a predator/prey relationship is as natural as a tree growing. Idiots.
If you've ever been to the National Zoo, you would know it's near impossible for that deer to have gotten in there on its own accord. Wtf?
if only teh Lion won! that might turn some of the spectators vegetarian.
