The man said he was trying to attract people to the Golden Triangle Tactical gun store. The "Tactical Banana" is the shop's mascot.
One report says multiple police squad cars arrived to tackle the banana mascot, drew their guns on him and handcuffed him while they figured out if his sign was legal.
Police said they briefly detained the 18-year-old man, who had a 50-round magazine clip on him. He was cited for breaking city rules against soliciting for business alongside highways.
