“When he went back to the fire he knelt and smoothed her hair as she slept and he said if he were God he would have made the world just so and no different.” Cormac McCarthy, The Road
“So each had a private little sun for her soul to bask in; some dream, some affection, some hobby, or at least some remote and distant hope….” Thomas Hardy, Tess of the D’Urbervilles
Response to Knitting Myself Back Together:
This is a terrific article. You’ve articulated the knitting experience so well. It takes me back to the time when I was just starting out on my own and knitting was my greatest source of comfort, self efficacy, and reassurance. You should know that this article is making its way around art therapy circles. I first saw it courtesy of several fellow art therapists, who post on Facebook. Much of what you say about the experience of crafting something also applies with artmaking.
