Opening up about having or overcoming an eating disorder can be a difficult subject to talk about. But three people who have been personally affected decided to discuss what they'd like the public to know about eating disorders.

Although advice sometimes comes from a good place, it can be hurtful for someone who is struggling with an eating disorder.

And there's a big misconception that having an eating disorder is a choice people consciously make.

You cannot tell a person is struggling solely based on their appearance.

And rational decision-making isn't always an option.

Though there is a stigma around body image issues in general, men find it extremely difficult to talk about.

But the most important thing, above all, is to just be there and be supportive for someone who is battling an eating disorder.
