Donald Trump Made A Board Game In 1989 And It Is Just A Little Too Real Today

    It shouldn't surprise you that Donald Trump once marketed his own board game.

    It doesn't surprise me because my mom actually bought this game way back in good 'ol 1989, and for way too long I thought the term "trump card" originated with this game. (It actually dates back to the 1500s. I know that now.)

    Being that we are all unwitting players in Trump The Game IRL, I thought it might be fun to take a stroll down memory lane.

    "It's not whether you win or lose, but whether you win!" the game proclaims in gold lettering that is embossed and gleaming.

    How was the game played exactly?

    Let's just say it was Monopoly with much higher dollar amounts, a goal of forcing other players into "financial ruin," and of course, Donald Trump's face on every surface.

    Inside you will find cards representing the type of properties Trump invests in (Tropical Island! Sports Arena!) along with instructions on how to force sales and foreclose on them, natch.

    Just like real life, kids!

    You were given goals, such as "Collect Trump cards" and "Try to buy properties on the game board."

    Oh, you wanted to see Donald Trump's face on currency? Well you are in luck.

    Of course, the lowest dollar increment in this game is ten million because OBVIOUSLY.

    But wait...there's a phase two of this game. The "dealing" phase.

    This is where your goals become "Play cards in your hand to make money," and "Make deals to acquire even more money."

    These come in four varieties: Profit, Tax, Force Sale, and Die Roll. "If you think an opponent may be low on cash," the instructions urge, "consider playing a tax card on him or her...you'll get some cash and a property worth at least $50 million!"
