Feminism is defined as a doctrine of socio-political *equality* of women with men. The trouble with feminism is that, as a movement, it’s become oppressive (in some quarters, at least). Here’s the thing. I don’t want to be in your ‘club’ if I’m going to be told I have to wear certain things, think certain things and make certain life choices - how is that better for me as a woman than being dictated to by the patriarchy? It’s not OK to be pigeon-holed by men but its fine if it’s coming from feminism’s versions of the mother superior?! Thanks but no thanks. As to Beyonce, if she believes in and actively supports socio-political equality for women, then I’m not sure her ‘feminism’ is up for question. Personally, I’m a bit more concerned that her industry is assisting the trend for unrealistic body image and over-sexualisation - but then she’s far from the worst in her business in this regard. She seems to be a very good quality performer and I don’t see that she’s promoting a *dangerous* body image (she’s clearly not underweight or anything). Feminist? I don’t see why not.
