The immigration laws are there for good reason, and it's fair to expect that people should follow the rules, but that's NOT what this debate has been about - it's all about mistrust. It's kind of a picket fences thing, y'know? Once you're behind them, you don't want anyone else to come in and threaten what you've worked for. In a way, I understand that motive, because I hated when other kids would cheat off my exam papers in school, getting an A for my hard work. But I think people would interact a lot more peacefully if they didn't have TVs or radios… I mean, if you were just going about your day and you nodded politely to the Mexican lady who lives down the street and you paid the black dentist for your check-up and you loaned your lawnmower to the Japanese guy next door, would you be so fearful? I doubt it. You would just get on with your life, and let other people do the same. You wouldn't be mistrustful about how they got their “A”, you would just be concerned with your own business. It's the Glenn Becks, Rush Limbaughs, Sarah Palins, Bill O'Reillys and Fox Everythings of the world who contribute to this attitude of fear and hatred. Their hyperbole is the epidemic.
