This is a poor misinterpretation of what Ezra Taft Benson meant. My mother worked throughout my childhood and that of my 3 brothers and sister. She did it because she had to in order to support our family of 6 along with my working dad. There was no religious condemnation for her working while raising kids then (around the time the talk was given) nor is there present day lashback if you choose to work and have children. Latter-day Saints believe that the glory of God is intelligence which means we believe that the Lord wants us to be smart and reasonable when making important, life-changing decisions. We should not thoughtlessly follow the counsel given to us by our Prophet and in fact are encouraged to pray about what he says and find out for ourselves that it is true. Please don’t believe everything that you read, especially if it’s coming from an uninformed source.
