8 Real-Life Ways Teachers Feel Appreciated

Tuesday, May 5, 2015 marks this year's Teacher Appreciation Day. But what does "teacher appreciation" really mean? Eight active classroom teachers and members of Educators 4 Excellence share real-life moments when they feel appreciated. Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! #ThankATeacher

    1. When I witness a student’s sense of accomplishment from all of their hard work.

    2. When students see me outside of school hours and don't run and hide but stop to say "hi".

    3. When students of mine, who never turn in homework, suddenly become excited about learning because we’re reading The Outsiders.

    4. When my colleagues and I are asked to share our thoughts and ideas. Empowered teachers shine bright!

    5. When I witness students gaining independence and confidence in the classroom.

    6. When a former student tells me they were the only one in their college course who recognized a concept they learned from my class.

    7. When my principal recognizes me as a professional. Like the time all the teachers at my school got business cards with the school logo that say, "Teacher, Leader, Lifelong Learner".

    8. When teachers themselves get the opportunity to continue growing and learning.
