I love cats whole-heartedly and have volunteered at countless shelters (and I’ve just been accepted into vet school!) , but as far as your dismissing the economic situation in pet ownership, I have to disagree. It isn’t the food that’s costly, it is the vet bills. People don’t take this into account when adopting but pets get sick or hurt and require pricey medications, treatments, and surgeries. Even vaccines can be expensive. It is our responsibility to take care of these creatures, but if we cannot be prepared to care for them when they are sick then we cannot responsibly own and care for a pet.
