Exactly! It’s not the government’s job to fund your retirement!
Exactly! It’s not the government’s job to fund your retirement!
The government is not going to take care of you when you are old. People need to pretty much assume that they are on their own and plan accordingly for their financial needs after retirement.
I am a woman and I also find most of the behaviors on that list to be obnoxious/annoying. I think there were maybe only 5-10 that I disagreed with. I think part of it is that I live in an urban area and take public transportation to commute and the sheer number of self-absorbed/selfish people that I encounter has made me wonder if humanity is doomed. Of course, this guy seems particularly jaded; I would never make a deal-breaker list like this!
They could also trip while going upstairs to bed. Or down the stairs to on their way out of work. Or in the grocery store. Using your logic, pregnant women should basically go on bed rest to prevent all of the potential accidents that might befall them.
It is actually worse for the mom and baby for the mom to change her exercise routine after becoming pregnant. Obviously, pregnant women need to be cautious, but with a doctor’s clearance, running can be great exercise when pregnant.
Also, if you do the calculations, that means that they are paying their entry level people over $10 an hour - well above minimum wage in a lot of states. This writer’s alarmist twisting of the facts is irresponsible.
In some cities (including mine) the In and Out turnstiles are the same (there is no designated “Out” turnstile). So at rush periods it is a nightmare if you are going the opposite way of the rush (like this guy). Also, if you watch closely, he is already in the turnstile before she swipes. She should have waited the extra 10 seconds for him to finish walking through before she swiped.
I don’t think this writer knows what last call is (at least in the U.S.). “Last call” literally means this is your last chance to buy a drink because we’re closing in a little bit. So of course people buy drinks after last call! That’s the point of doing last call!
Prawns are actually different from shrimp - like they are literally a different species. So, technically Australians are the ones that need to change their lexicon (not Outback Steakhouse) if Australians are using a single word, “prawns,” for both shrimp and prawns.
That gave me goosebumps!
For those that are unaware, pretty much every criminal defendant waives their right to a speedy trial these days. For the most part, it’s to give both sides more time to prepare. It’s also because a lot of courts have a large backlog of cases. I have always wondered why more defendants DON’T waive the right to a speedy trial, though. It seems that even though you are giving up time to prepare for your own defense, you’re probably throwing the prosecutor off even more, which could be to your benefit.
It still plays on ABC Family on weekday mornings. I DVR it!
Koalas are adorable, but the fact that they have managed to survive is just crazy. They literally sleep 20 hours per day because their diet of eucalyptus leaves is too nutritionally poor to give them energy to do anything else.
Those employees face some pretty hefty fines and a little jail time for their HIPAA violations!
Except they’re not “abandoned” as you say. They were literally JUST adopted in a new penal code by Brunei.
#7 is worded wrong. It is asking how many representatives (congressmen would include senators). Weird how they got the wording right in the first one, but not the seventh.
She can’t workout to get rid of the extra skin. It’s not an issue of her trying harder to look “fit.” She is fit - she lost the weight and has kept it off. She has the excess skin around her belly because when she was heavier, her skin stretched to fit her body and some people’s skin just doesn’t have a lot of elasticity that allows it to shrink back when the person loses the weight.
How on earth can they move their feet so fast??? Amazing!
Also, I understand not wanting to automatically assume that Singer is guilty. But, the types of behaviors by the accuser that you are questioning show that you don’t understand the mental and emotional affects that abuse have on an adolescent boy.
It doesn’t matter the reason why the kid was flying back and forth or living with Singer. At 15, it is illegal for an adult to have sex with that kid.
Sure, it raises question about his parents’ job raising the kid, but in the end, that issue doesn’t matter, it is illegal for an adult to have sex with a 15 year old.
He won their dragon boat race in Canada!
Their age difference may seem creepy, but the law says it’s legal. Beyond that, I don’t think it’s anyone’s place to comment.
He did know her age (she told him). But, 17 is the age of consent in Scotland, so while some people may think it is creepy, nothing about it is illegal.
This girl has no clue. If you want to be a writer, you have to write. Almost no one makes it onto the staff at a studio from an internship. She needs to get her writing out there (anywhere! - online, magazines, newspapers, etc.) and find her voice. She may realize that screen writing is not the type of writing for which she is best suited.
Also, she needs to stop whining.
I competed at a D1 school through college and we NEVER got our laundry done by anyone but ourselves. Kinda ridiculous that some schools apparently do that.
A lot of these aren’t necessarily gluten free. A lot of broths and sauces that are used in these dishes aren’t always gluten-free (i.e. risotto - a lot of broths have flour in them, pad thai - soy sauce is often not gluten free, salad dressing - a lot of cheap vinegars used in salad dressings are not gluten-free, just to name a few). For people who are mildly gluten-sensitive, this may not be a problem, but for those with celiac, these could be a major problem.
not by guillotine!
I think they meant to say you can’t hum with your mouth closed AND nose plugged. Other than making a few random noises, people can’t hum if both mouth and nose are blocked.
You can make a few random bursts of sound with your mouth closed and nose plugged, but you can’t hum.
64 is saying that if you could fold a (very very large) piece of paper (of regular thickness) 42 times, the thickness of the folded stack would reach to the moon. In other words, if you doubled the thickness of a piece of paper 42 time, it would reach to the moon. A piece of paper is around .1 mm thick (or .0001 meters). So, if you think of it like you are doubling the thickness 42 times, you would do .0001*2 = .0002, then .0002*2 = .0004, then .0004*2= .0008, all the way until you did that 42 times. Or, simplified, the equation is .0001*2^42, which equals 439,804,651 meters.
Realistically, you can’t actually fold a piece of paper that many times, regardless of the size b/c it just wouldn’t bend that many times. Interesting to think that it would take 439,804,651,000 pieces of paper stacked to get to the moon though!
In northern Illinois, a lot of roads have the two double lines separated by more than 2 ft. - you can only turn left at intersections or where they have broken the double line with a turn lane. These are usually very busy roads with 2 or more lanes in each direction. It’s actually kind of annoying because sometimes you have to go past where you need to turn, make the left where it’s allowed into a different place, turn around in the parking lot and then take a right back out onto the street and double back so that you can then make a right turn into where you need to get to.
That’s why the question said “unless otherwise posted.” It’s always 25 if there are no signs.
This says: I’m gay and Lithuanian, and I have no problem with this law. If you are also gay and Lithuanian can leave Lithuania and live somewhere else. Lithuanian is not my native language, I learned from my mother
If you are also gay and Lithuanian can leave Lithuania and live somewhere else. Lithuanian is not my native language, I learned from my mother
This makes me sad. I am the granddaughter of Lithuanian immigrants. While they certainly hold true to many “old school” beliefs, they still believe in equality. It’s sad that their fellow countrymen don’t agree.
But ultimately, the correct people were found through crowd-sourcing. And if memory serves, police acted very quickly to clear the incorrectly identified people.
The number of people commenting about the dad and casting judgment on him clearly did not read the full article from the New Yorker. Sad that people feel that they need to judge others, especially when they don’t have the full story.
READ THE ACTUAL FULL ARTICLE FROM THE NEW YORKER.
Have you read the article? The dad tried to be involved in Adam’s life. The mother basically banned the dad from seeing the kid.
You need to read the full article. The father did not abandon him. Also, the dad clearly feels very very horribly about what happened. Your comments make it sound as though the dad is happily going about his life and didn’t care about his son. Read the full article in the New Yorker before commenting.
Was that Russian guy beer-bonging sangria with the fruit in it?!?!
