“Okay so I know this is kinda taboo but anyways.
Frida Kahlo: Not too easy on the eyes. I mean she’s got the lady-mo and the monobrow thing going on. She didn’t know where to put her blush or what shade lipstick would obviously suit her skin tone. Really, she’s a bit of a wreck. So this got me to thinking. What would have happened if her girlfriends had done the right thing and taken her to a beautician, (which clearly needed to happen)? I did a subtle re-paint over the top of her original self-portrait to “conceptualize” what it would have looked like if she had been whisked off to Beauty Works or the likes….I didn’t want to alter the integrity of the original painting too much. What do you reckon?”

primavolta 5 months agoFrida Kahlo is by far my favorite artist but I don’t see the point of getting mad about this. It’s laughable to think that some lame-o tumblr “artist” could detract from the true ethos of Frida’s work. Frida was so blatantly beyond traditional standards of beauty and people ALWAYS comment about it, so this person isn’t doing anything unexpected or interesting. In my opinion, Frida was very striking even if she didn’t paint herself that way, and even if she had “excessive” facial hair. Didn’t stop her from being one of the most famous Mexican artists nor keep her having romantic connections to some of the most distinguished minds of her time.

This mew painting just looks bizarre and wrong. Frida Kahlo was making a point by rejecting traditional beauty conventions, and it’s clear that the idiot on tumblr who did this doesn’t really understand who Frida Kahlo really was and what she stood for, because this is really disrespectful.

I don’t ‘approve’ of this, and I definitely don’t think it can even compare to the original’s uniqueness and power, but I also don’t feel like this deserves so much outrage. It wasn’t the ‘right thing to do’, but in the end it’s actually just some guy with photoshop and 20 minutes of free time; it’s not some person purposely trying to degrade her.

mauser*girl 5 months agoPeople have been harrassing this artist over this piece he posted a long time ago for weeks now. Anyone who’s looked at his tumblr would have noticed he is making a statement and the entire write-up is nothing like his normal posts. Seriously, people are just too stupid to get it,so they continue harrassing the guy. Don’t you all have anything better to do?

☁Spam Of God☁ 5 months agoIt’s like this: One of those pictures, is generically “pretty” The other is the 20th century’s answer to the Mona Lisa I guess you can decide which is more important. I’m glad the artist did this though, by creating the controversy they’re shining a much deserved spotlight on an important masterpiece.
