The fact is that the prosecution had the burden of providing evidence. They did not prove to the jury beyond a reasonable doubt that Zimmerman was guilty, and beyond a reasonable doubt is what our judicial system is based on. The eye-witness said that Trayvon was on top of Zimmerman, and the prosecution could not prove that it was not self-defense. That being said, I was shocked of “Not Guilty” all around. “Not Guilty” does not mean “Innocent” though. In my opinion, manslaughter was in order but that’s not what the prosection was shooting for. They were pushing for full on Murder in the second degree. I do believe that a neighborhood watch should not have been carrying a weapon, and I do believe that Zimmerman should have stopped persuing Martin when dispatch told him to do so. That also being said, I do not believe Zimmerman should be allowed to carry a firearm from here on out as he obviously does not know how to handle one correctly.
