Taylor Swift And Carly Simon Singing "You're So Vain" Is Something To Celebrate

What do you get when you take the most powerful songwriter from the '70s and the most powerful songwriter from today? One of the most groundbreaking collaborations in music history.

I'll begin by saying I'm super tired of everyone ridiculing Taylor Swift's love life.

Everyone says she's a slut because she's had a few boyfriends,

and a jerk for writing songs about them.

Sadly, this isn't the first time a female songwriter has been bashed.

Like T-Swift, legendary singer-songwriter Carly Simon was rarely taken seriously for her craft.

She was judged for the classic 1972 anthem "You're So Vain" because it's about a vain man...

...and she wouldn't reveal what man, even to this day.

But who cares who these ladies are writing about?

Can't you just have your own creative interpretation as a listener?

Aren't Taylor and Carly revealing enough within the material already?

Let's celebrate these women for writing incredible songs,

instead of labeling them as sluts for writing about their love interests.

Because guess what, everyone? Men write songs about women.

And are they ever hounded with a series of questions about their craft? Nope.

They're celebrated for writing songs about love because it's considered honest...

...but when T-Swift writes "I Knew You Were Trouble" or Carly writes "Anticipation," it's not an authentic piece of art.

You know what I have to say to that?

And don't try to tell me men are given a hard time about their music…

…because they're not. Nobody has a harder time in the biz than a female songwriter.

So, let this magical moment between Taylor Swift and Carly Simon be something positive.

Because for Carly to join Taylor on stage is not only cool, but incredibly groundbreaking.

A legendary songwriter and modern day songwriter sang the anthem of all anthems.

And if anyone has a problem with two authentic artists performing the shit out of "You're So Vain,"

    please get to steppin.

    Because this is everything.

    Here is the magical performance:
