These Photos Of An RAF Pilot Being Reunited With His One-Year Old Son Are Incredibly Touching

His son had learned to walk while he was in Afghanistan.

When Gareth Prendergast returned from a six-month stint in Afghanistan, he was greeted by his one-year old son running along the tarmac towards him.

Gareth's wife, Rachel, and their two children, Felix, age 1, and Hector, age 3, were waiting for him at RAF Marham when he returned.

Rachel told the Daily Mail: "Hector is old enough to have some understanding of where his dad has been and has missed him terribly.

"It's been different for Felix who wasn't even walking when he went away.

"For Gareth it's like coming back to a different son and I'm sure they'll have a great time bonding all over again."

Gareth is a squadron leader, and has just returned from flying Tornado fighter planes in Afghanistan.

Gareth said, about returning home: "'You almost form a family of your own while you're out there but of course it's never the same."
