Severus Snape is one of the characters in the Harry Potter series who is equally loved and despised.

Some would argue that by risking his life to double-cross Voldemort, he became one of the great heroes of the series.

His love and dedication to Lily make him an endearing character worthy of our empathy.

Though on the other hand, many believe that this in no way made up for the fact that he was a Death Eater in the first place.

Nor does it make it OK for him to continually torment and torture his students.
