It's a good year to be Game of Thrones. The hit HBO series, which has largely been left out of the acting categories in years past (Peter Dinklage aside), can now count Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) among its nominees, along with Diana Rigg (Lady Olenna Tyrell), who are vying for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and Guest Actress in a Drama Series, respectively. The show leads the nominations this year with 19, while FX's Fargo follows closely behind with 18 nominations and another of FX's hits, American Horror Story: Coven, is next in line with 17 nominations. For its final season, Breaking Bad has 16 potential chances to win an Emmy and HBO's The Normal Heart also earned 16 nominations.
And in its first year eligible for the Emmys, Netflix's breakout smash Orange Is the New Black also fared well, earning an Outstanding Comedy nod as well as nominations for many of its actresses: Taylor Schilling (Piper Chapman), Kate Mulgrew (Galina "Red" Reznikov), Uzo Aduba (Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren), Laverne Cox (Sophia Burset), and Natasha Lyonne (Nicky Nichols).
Plus, there are numerous stars up for two acting nominees this year, like Alison Janney (Masters of Sex and Mom), Martin Freeman (Fargo and Sherlock: His Last Vow), Louis C.K. (Louie and SNL), Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly and SNL), and Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory and The Normal Heart).
But, as good of a year it is for those actors and shows, many fan favorites — cough Orphan Black's forever-snubbed Tatiana Maslany cough and cough cough Emmy nominations announcer Mindy Kaling cough cough — are left out of the race this year.
