This is great. It's fun to watch Jack Shepard post some horribly stupid chart and hopefully begin to learn, both from his mistake, and why ignorance is never cool. I think this is happening here.

This graph was obviously created by some guy trying to be funny. One thing totally incorrect about it is the percentage given to trying to get laid. Obviously since men spend close to 100% of the time trying to get laid, they figure women would spend 50% on it. The truth is women don't have to worry about getting laid. Feminist or not, all we have to do is ask any man and we can get laid.

Let me redirect this: Jack is an extraordinarily sweet person and he's definitely not a woman-hater. :) I don't think the pie-chart is funny, but I don't want him to feel overly bad about posting this. I think he gets that we're upset. So send him some virtual hugs or something?

I'm really disgusted that anyone finds this funny. If you are still under the impression that feminists are just ball-breaking, man-hating, bored, attention starved lesbians just dying for something to complain about, you're wrong.
I'm a feminist, and I find this ignorance and disrespect really rude and archaic. This is the 20th Century. Would everyone please grow up and realize that all we are asking for is equality and respect?

It's amazing to me how many people comment on feminism without even knowing what it is. Like, for instance, did anyone know that the ultimate goal of political feminism is the abolition of currency? or that there has always been a rift between feminists that advocate complete independence (support yourself, don't get saddled down with kids) and conservative feminists (who advocate staying home and taking care of the family, yes they exist). Feminists for the most part are very pro-family and they think we, as a society, should value the efforts that supply our individual needs and support the family (like farming and child care) at least as much as we value, like, say… a mid-level advertising position. It all makes a lot of sense to me. I think more people would warm up to feminism if they knew more about it and understood that the concepts and benefits of feminism don't exclude males.

Hum, no mention of the fact that in the 1970s women doing equal work that men did earned $.50 to every $1.00 that a man made. By the 1990s women were making $.60 to every $1.00 a man made. Now in 2010 women make $.75 for every $1.00 for equal work of their male counter parts. Maybe women will stop being pissed when for every $1.00 a man makes for equal work, women will also earn $1.00, but the way it is going, that will take another 40 years to happen.

Really, Jack? It's not particularly funny. I caught that the author self-identifies as a feminist, so if everyone would spare me “it's OK — she's a feminist and you have no sense of humor” responses, I'd appreciate that.
