Big deal. It’s just been reclassified as a dwarf planet and there are hundreds of them in our solar system. Pluto wasn’t really that special to begin with. It’s not even the biggest dwarf planet!

Pluto is still a planet, and no, most of the public is NOT coming to terms with the controversial and wrongful demotion, done not by Tyson but by four percent of the IAU, most of whom are not planetary scientists. Their decision was immediately opposed in a formal petition by hundreds of professional astronomers led by Dr. Alan Stern, Principal Investigator of NASA’s New Horizons mission to Pluto. Stern and like-minded scientists favor a broader planet definition that includes any non-self-luminous spheroidal body in orbit around a star. The spherical part is important because objects become spherical when they attain a state known as hydrostatic equilibrium, meaning they are large enough for their own gravity to pull them into a round shape. This is a characteristic of planets and not of shapeless asteroids and Kuiper Belt Objects. Pluto meets this criterion and is therefore a planet. Under this definition, our solar system has 13 planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Ceres, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris.

This is all about the f-ing americans again. They wanted to have a planet which an american discovered so they made up a retarded lie. Now they make kids sad. It’s like half of the medical names which are American for no reason…like ALS which you call “Lou Gehrig disease” when it should be “Charcot’s disease”. It was in fact discovered by Charcot, a french doctor, DECADES before Lou Gehrig was even born.

my vote is that pluto should be re-instated as an honorary planet.
