20. These pictures of a man jumping into rough waters to rescue a stranger’s Shih Tzu in Melbourne.
Sue Drummond was walking her beloved Shih Tzu, Bibi, on a pier in Melbourne, when a fierce gust of wind picked him up and hurled him into the rough waters of the bay. A passerby, Raden Soemawinata, who happened to be on the pier that day to scatter his grandmother’s ashes, wasted no time in stripping down and diving into the bay to rescue the animal.

justinc30 10 months agoA few years ago, me and some friends drove to Virginia for a conference, and our car broke down just as we were leaving the parking lot. A group of people came up alongside us and offered to help, and when we still couldn’t get the car moving, they drive us to a hotel for the night, because it was already past midnight. Instead of just dropping us off, they paid for our hotel that night. The next morning, after a tow truck picked up our car, our new friends drove us to the mechanic’s shop, and said on the way “do you fellas want any cash to help pay for your car?” We refused, saying they had already done enough. The mechanic told us it would be about $700 to fix the car. We had no idea where we would get the money. I opened up my luggage to get my wallet, and found that our new friends had left us $650. I never cried so hard in my life.

Lady Emberheart 11 months agoThe post is amazing, but what’s really got me is reading all these comments. I will come back and do it again whenever I feel my faith failing, and smile.

aleciac 11 months agoI agree with enmc and I cried like jenk14, What a wonderful post this is. Someone had posted this in a “happy forum” that I was looking through. It made my day and I plan to pass it on. In a world so full of the negative a dose of what’s right in the world is good for the soul. Great job.

colindavidr 11 months agoa friend of mine lives in the provinces about 4 hours from Paris. Her daughter got a place to study at the Sorbonne so she asked her rich cousin, who owns quite a lot of property in paris if he could help out with an appartment. He found her a small place and offered it to the student at 2/3 of the commercial rent. The family found this a bit stingy on his part but accepted. The girl finished her studies and stayed in the appt for about 5 years - still paying the lowered rent. One day the rich cousin came to her and said “isn’t it about time you got your own place?” She replied “I can’t afford it” He then wrote her a cheque for the amount that represented the rent she had paid over the 7 years saying “If I’d let you stay for free, you would never have saved this. You now have a substantial deposit to put down on your own appt”

ellorylavalr 11 months agoI was involved in a very serious car accident in which the car rolled over 3 times before landing on its hood in a 10 foot ditch. A post which had been knocked down from a fierce snowstorm some days before was protruding through its windshield and just barely missed my son who was in the passenger seat. Fortunately myself, who was asleep in the back seat and my son and fiancee received only minor cuts, scrapes and bruises. The car was totaled. We were ambulanced to a nearby hospital in Price, Utah where we were given food and our injuries treated. We were then provided with a free hotel room at the Holiday Inn there. This was on Christmas eve. One of the emergency trauma nurses called a friend who owned a used car lot and he left his dinner to come to our aid. The next day he rented us a car and since we were still in such bad shape, had a very good friend of his drive us the rest of the way to Las Vegas. He did not make a profit on the car rental, I know. I have the highest regard for the people of Price, Utah and those angels who came unstintingly to our aid during a time of need.

Lulimon 11 months agoAfter my first year of university, my parents couldn’t pay for my flight back home in the summer (Toronto to El Salvador is roughly a thousand bucks), so I decided to go home with some money I had saved up. I only had $300 for transportation but with that I could pay a Greyhound from my town to Toronto, then a Megabus from Toronto to New York, a (shoddy) plane from New York to Guatemala and a bus from Guatemala to El Salvador. Aside from the $300, I only had about another $120 for food and other necessities. When I was about to get on the Greyhound to Toronto, my backpack tore open from the bottom. It was a Sunday morning and everything was closed. A very nice lady who asked me to watch her bag while she went to the bathroom saw that I was having some trouble with my backpack and asked me if I was okay. I told her my story and she was nice enough to give me a roll of duct tape to patch up my backpack for the time being. She also gave me $40 to buy some food when I got to Toronto. Before we parted ways, she said, “One day, a stranger’s kindness helped me. Just promise one day you will do the same.” I did. When I was on the plane to Guatemala, there was an awful thunderstorm. It was one of those cheap planes that are poorly built, and we had to stop in Orlando for about two hours. When we finally made it to Ft. Lauderdale, where I had to switch planes, I had missed my connection. The next flight was in two days and the company would not pay for the hotel. I was completely alone and barely had any money to pay for a hotel. I found a hotel that would cost me most of my money, so I took a shared taxi from the airport. I decided I might as well ask the driver if he knew any hotels cheaper than the one the airline suggested. He said he did, and the old lady I was sharing the cab with pitched in with some advice. They asked me what was wrong, why I was so distressed, and I told them. The lady was incredibly sweet; she reminded me of my grandma. Before she left the cab, she gave me $40. “God knows you need it more than I do,” she said. The driver was very nice as well; he found me a cheaper hotel and he charged me much less than I was due to pay. Silly as it may sound, the money those two women gave me saved my sorry ass. I had not planned to spend money on a hotel, so if I hadn’t had those extra $80 I would have starved. I can’t believe how lucky I was to find them in my journey. I hope one day I will be able to have such an impact on someone’s life.

elb2 11 months agoIncredibly hard to choose ‘just one’, but #14… it’s just the way the cat is looking at the fireman in the 2nd photo. After adopting my dog, Meg, from a local shelter I learned (for the first time) that animals can, indeed, feel gratitude. Something that touches my heart, even today.
