When I see someone wearing a KKK robe, I tend to judge the person wearing it more than who/what they're railing against.  PETA has become the Rev. Fred Phelps of the animal rights movement. Their shock value tactics have become predictable, but they're still so infuriating that you can't help but feed their publicity machine.  They're like trolls in a comments section who are doing their movement a disservice every time they open their mouths. These stupid stunts aren't convincing anyone of anything. They're just preaching to the converted and projecting an image of “vegetarians” being a bunch of loons in Klan robes.
