11 Things You Didn't Know About Lolawolf

The Zoë Kravitz–fronted band talks UFOs, Pearl Jam, and escaping to the Bahamas.

This is Lolawolf, a rad band from Brooklyn made up of Zoë Kravitz, Jimmy Giannopoulos, and James Levy.

You already know Zoë — the daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet who has appeared in big films such as Divergent, X-Men: First Class, and, coming out this May, Mad Max: Fury Road — but you may not know her band. Lolawolf released its first full album Calm Down in October 2014, and has already toured with major stars like Lily Allen and Miley Cyrus!

Today the band released a steamy new surveillance-style video for their latest single, "Bitch," featuring Zoë singing in her underwear and a special guest appearance from Miley Cyrus in a leotard.

We called Lolawolf's Jimmy Giannopoulos and got the skinny. Here are 11 facts you probably didn't know.

    1. The name Lolawolf came from Zoë's little sister and brother, Lola and Nakoa-Wolf Momoa.

    2. Jimmy and James both went to the same school and even sat next to each other in classes, but didn't actually meet till 10 years later.

    3. Jimmy has been friends with Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder since he was 14 years old.

    4. James can slam-dunk a basketball.

    5. Zoë, Jimmy, and James have lived in the same Brooklyn neighborhood for more than 10 years.

You can find them performing in venues like Baby's All Right, Rough Trade, and Music Hall of Williamsburg.

    6. Zoë, Jimmy, and James all have a cat living in their separate apartments, but none of them actually owns a cat.

As you can see, they're more dog (make that wolf) people than cat people, but these stray cats snuck into their apartments so often that their roommates just became the caretakers.

    7. Lolawolf records most of their music either in the Bahamas or hotel rooms.

The band will shack up with all their equipment in Zoë's dad's place in the Bahamas for months at a time just to record.

    8. Lolawolf albums are recorded using all analog instruments.

    9. Jimmy and Zoë can communicate using only emoticons.

    10. James is sure he once saw a UFO.

    11. Jimmy learned to speak English from watching Sesame Street.

His parents lived near the border of Albania and Greece and moved to the U.S. knowing little English. To teach him, they just sat him in front of the TV and turned on Sesame Street.
